To commemorate Tectvsâ 30 year anniversary, ToxicDuck were tasked to evolve their logo into a logotype suitable for the digital age without revolutionising the 30 year equity built into the brand. The Tectvs red has been a staple for their visual identity, alongside the Helvetica logotype. However, when scaled large or small, unnoticeable details became obvious, like kerning issues or type weight.
Coincidentally enough, the timing of the release for Helvetica Now in 2019 was perfection. Helvetica Now brought the most famous typeface into the digital age through the introduction of optical sizing. This was not a redesign, this was simply a restoration.
This is how we treated Tectvsâ logo project.
By selecting a bolder weight and taking advantage of the wonderfully new Helvetica Now typeface, the Tectvs logo immediately becomes stronger and confident on a page. To give the logo some extra distinctiveness, we removed the beak from the lowercase âtâ. The new logo has a fluid logotype that works in both small and large sizes.
